Origin and Description

California Cluster Hops is but a step on the stairway to modern beer brewing. It was devastated by a Black Root Rot plague in New Zealand in the 1950's, which spawned a breeding program to find a replacement. Although its history trail is vague before that time, it later was used to create some quality varieties:

Smooth Cone = California Cluster X Open Pollination
Calicross = California Cluster X Fuggle
