Origin and Description

Victoria Hops was named after its place of origin which is the Rostrevor Breeding Garden Victoria, in Australia. The early 1990's mark the introduction of the Victoria Hops variety, which is only grown around the area at this point. Victoria Hops shares the same mother and birth place as Galaxy Hops which has comparable characteristics. This mother is simply labeled as J78, and her pedigree is unknown.

Victoria Hops is a dual use hops with a high alpha acid content ranging from 11.5%-14.8%. Its really not that common of a variety, and is difficult to find in commercial beers. The co-humulone is high in Victoria Hops at 38%-45%. Myrcene is the only oil to be outside of moderate range is fairly high at 30%-45%. Myrcene itself gives a fruity fragrance that is mixed with woody, and herbal peppery tones.

Victoria Hops is a whopper on the yield side, perhaps only under its sister Galaxy Hops. Victoria Hops can yield up to 3293 lbs/acre...wow. It lives in the disease free continent of Australia, and has not been marked with susceptibility or tolerance for disease including wilt and mildew. Galaxy makes a great replacement in your beer if you are unable to find the mighty Victoria on shelves or from vendors.
